Drawing With My Daughter
I like drawing with my daughter, because she often gives me a lot of inspiration!
Once I wanted to try a Still Life painting. I made a draft then I painted it with oil pastel as you can see below. Well… the painting was not so bad, but I just didn’t like the composition, I found it very classic and boring. Then my daughter came and asked me if she can copy my painting that I’ve done. I said sure, you can then she just sit down by me and drew with me. That’s one of our favorite Mother-Daughter things – drawing together side by side.

After she finished her drawing with pencil, she showed me and I was so surprised at her “copied” version. She couldn’t really copy the same things as I’ve done, but she had her special vision, point of view and interpretation of my drawing, and I found it fun and super creative. I was so inspirited by her childish style composition that I redrew another version copping her composition idea. She suggested me to add a cat and a bird that really went well with the rest. Thanks to my daughter, this time I was really satisfied with my new Still Life painting (with acrylic gouache).

Today my daughter and I wanted to draw birds together. She chose a hummibird, we just drew looking at the same picture of a hummibird. And like the usual I drew a boring, realistic hummibird, instead she drew a very styled version for my opinion.

Then my daughter wanted to draw a flamingo, this time I tried to draw a more “styled” flamingo but not the usual one. Well….. not too bad the result. (although it looks a little like a pink turkey )

I really like to draw with my daughter, we always enjoy the time drawing together, and very often she can teach me and inspire me a lot. Sometimes I also discuss with her about my stories, like my first children’s picture book “The Duck And The Wolf“, she gave me the idea how to end the story. I always say that I’ve learned a lot from my daughter, not only from the life, but also the drawing skills. Thank you my sweetheart, I love you so much, and I hope we can keep this habit forever even when you will become a big girl.
